What is Family Constellation?
Family Constellation is a methodology developed by German psychotherapist Bert Hellinger in the 1950s. When he lived with the African Zulu tribe for 16 years, he noticed that there was minimal depression, mental illnesses or family discord. The natives had a long tradition of resolving personal and family issues by accessing the whole of the family lineage and the Knowing field. This phenomenological method takes the person out of the individual consciousness which is usually where most people get stuck in, to the group consciousness of the ancestors, and even further to the consciousness of Oneness. Integrating with Western psychology and this traditional healing practice, Family Constellation became widely supported by countries all over the world. It is an elegant and efficient way to be informed of the deepest dynamics in our family system in order to find new resources and resolutions of love, healing, and strength!
What has love got to do with it?
We all live a busy life juggling between family, work and obligations! However, how often do we stop to ponder where the sources of strength of our lives come from? Are our actions and aspirations been backed up as if there is a knowing that all is well whatever life brings us?
Love is the core of every issue we face on a daily basis. How does love flow freely from parents to children, between husband and wife, amongst siblings, between divorced couples, and inclusively of lost family members? How to achieve balance between giving and taking? When love is “out of order”, everyone is being affected deeply and at many levels: physical, emotional, psychosocial, and spiritual.
Family Constellation, using ancient technology combined with modern psychology, demonstrated that the dynamics of love and loyalty are no different from physics or math which follows defined patterns and logic. When the flow of love is disturbed, misaligned, or entangled, it has a negative domino effect on our health and our relationship with loved ones. This effect is not limited to the current generation, but can be passed down to future generations, to our children, grandchildren and so on! The opposite is also true!
What is the process of Family Constellation?
In a Family Constellation workshop, the participants usually sit in a circle creating a “knowing field”. It is a field where wisdom, experience, and information are accessed without expectations, anticipating, fear or guilt. The seeker selects representatives for the issues he/she would like some clarity or insight. For example: Why do I have repeated accidents? Why do I feel sad even when things are going well? Why did my child run away?
When the facilitator and all the participants work together with humbleness and humility, often times the Knowing field spontaneously come up with solutions or movement of healing for the family system, resolving age old entanglements or displaced loyalties, and connecting love in the right order so life flow through each and every one in the family system.
What to expect in a Family Constellation workshop?
- All are welcome! No one is excluded!
- The atmosphere is sincere and trusting so that everyone feels safe and comfortable.
- Confidentiality is emphasized and adhered to.
- The healing takes place not only for the seekers (people who have their issues worked on) but also for everyone in the circle. The effect continues to take place days, months, and sometimes years afterwards.
